The Growing Importance of Your Customer Relationship on Social Media

I recently posted about 50% of small businesses in Australia seeing little or no benefit in having social media pages. (Sensis Social Media Report, 2017).

This totally baffles me, given the overwhelming evidence that the first place customers go to research your product or find out about your business is social media pages.
Having social pages on Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and Instagram is an important step in creating your social media strategy for small business.
Yellow Pages recently published the latest 2018 Social Media Report and I want to focus on six of their key findings about brands, social media and engagement with customers, in today's blog.
  • More than four in ten consumers (44%) are following businesses or brands via social media. In the previous survey this incidence was just under one in four.
  • More than 50% of social media users say they are more likely to trust brands if they interact positively with customers on social media, make their content engaging and relevant, and keep it regularly updated.
  • 68% of us read online reviews and blogs before shopping, averaging eight reviews before making a decision, up from 44% previously.
  • Twenty-two percent of those who have posted reviews or blogs online indicated that if a business gets back to them after they posted a bad review, their opinion of that business might change.
  • A typical Facebook user spends 10 hours a week on the site.
  • 33% of us check out a brand’s social media presence before making our first online purchase from them.
The numbers really tell the story, don't they?  Now, more than ever, it's important to get active and serious about using social media for our businesses, ensuring we stay up-to-date with information, engage using relevant content for our customers and respond to either positive or negative feedback in a timely and professional manner.
