As 2017 comes to a close it's not surprising we begin to look toward the New Year. It's the perfect time to leave the year that has been behind and look forward with vigor to the new opportunities that may lay ahead.
January is one of the busiest times, if not the busiest, for people searching and applying for jobs and wanting to make changes in their career. So considering you won't be alone in your job search when 2018 rolls in, you want to make sure you're doing everything you can to stand out.
At Strategic Social Profiles we've helped hundreds of professionals improve their LinkedIn profiles and we've written loads of blogs on LinkedIn and professional branding. In this blog I'm going to highlight 3 tips to help you get your profile ready and to ensure you're using LinkedIn to help you grab those new opportunities. 1. Make sure your profile is 100% complete. Considering 87% of recruiters use LinkedIn to search for potential candidates you'll want to ensure your making the right first impression. So that means completing your profile to achieve an all-star status including: adding a professional photo; listing your jobs including a brief description; have 5 or more skills; write a summary about yourself, fill in your industry, education, postcode and get connected with your network.
2. Access LinkedIn Influencers, Channels & Publishers. We know LinkedIn is the worlds largest professional social media platform and it really is just teeming with professionals. Their LinkedIn Influencers network reinforces that. If you want to keep up with industry trends or be inspired by the world's greatest leaders all you need to do is follow them and have access to their content. You never know an article you read on LinkedIn may just be the difference between you and the next candidate in a job interview.
3. Be Active And Get Noticed. It might seem obvious but just the act of posting to social media helps you to establish credibility, gain new connections and build your professional brand. Rather than just sharing news or an interesting article, adding your own thoughts or publishing an original article on LinkedIn will get you noticed. It's this activity that might just help you get noticed by a future employer or a recruiter - so be active and get noticed.
Hopefully I've been able to convince you on the importance of updating your LinkedIn Profile and making the most of the professional social media platform. If you use it properly it can be such a great tool and it may just be the thing that helps you get what you want in 2018. We absolutely do know however it can be difficult to write about yourself so if you know you'll struggle to complete your own profile - let us help.
